about

Hitchhiking is a vanishing mode of transportation. The days of travelling on your thumb are just about over.

lyrics

You Can Ride a Greyhound Bus
copyright 2018 T R Munday

You can ride a Greyhound bus or get a ticket for a train
Get yourself a rental car or hop aboard a plane
(Transportation!)
Me I'm standing on the side of the road with my thumb sticking out
Guitar case and a duffel bag that's what it's all about
(Hitchhiking!)

Headed out of Janesville on good old Thirty-Nine
Got a ride from a preacher man down to the Illinois line
(Interstate highways!)
He asked me if my soul was saved I told him not quite yet
But I'm working on it father I'm as saved as I can get
(Hallelujah!)

Got a ride through Rockford in a big old semi-truck
Said if you don't mind me saying you look like you're down on your luck
(Eighteen wheeler!)
I'll tell you mister and I won't lie
I'd have to get better before I could die
(Exaggeration!)

(spoken: I stole that line from Hank Williams. He's dead he won't mind.)

Come on board the driver said I'll get you down the road
I'm going to Peoria where I'll pick up a load
(Yeah baby! Long ride!)
I climbed up in that tractor cab and then I flashed a smile
I appreciate your stopping I've been waiting there a while
(Goodbye entrance ramp!)

Got a gig down in St. Louis starting Friday night
Got four days to get there and I'm used to travelling light
(Cash money!)
Now I didn't tell that driver that he'd be in a song
But I started working on just that thing as we rolled right along
(spoken: Much appreciated. I'll just get out here)
