This song was a semi-finalist in the 2019 International Songwriters Competition. It tells the story, from the eyes of a boy, of a local legendary catfish and the boy's day spent trying to catch him.

lyrics

O'Joe the Catfish
T R Munday

Way down at the bottom of the river
Way down where the catfish go
Way down at the bottom of the river
Lives a fish they call O-Joe

That O-Joe he's a big one
Daddy says older than me
That O-Joe he's a big one
I'll turn eleven in a couple weeks

My fishing pole is made of willow
It'll bend but it don't break
My fishing pole is made of willow
Catch the big ones that's what it takes

Got a stick tied on my fish line
And I tied it on just right
Got a stick tied on my fish line
It stands right up when I get a bite

Brought my fish pole and a tin can
In that can I've got my bait
Brought my fish pole and a tin can
Throw out my line and sit and wait

There you see that stick's a-jigglin'
That O-Joe's nibblin' on my hook
There you see that stick's a-jigglin'
Pull it up, my bait's been took

That O-Joe, he's a smart one
And it's gettin' pretty late
That O-Joe, he's a smart one
Fished all day, he just took my bait

Caught one bass and a couple crappies
But O-Joe he got away
Caught one bass and a couple crappies
Guess I'll come back another day
